WCCO Belting and Shorma Family Strengthen Support of North Dakota State College of Science with Donation
$30,000 donation benefits NDSCS Athletics; free weight gym now named Shorma Family Gym
WAHPETON, N.D. — January 17, 2019 — The Shorma family, owners of WCCO Belting, Inc., donated $30,000 to the North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) Alumni Foundation to support the NDSCS Athletics Department. The free weight gym in the Clair T. Blikre Activities Center, fitted with new rubber flooring produced by WCCO, has been renamed the Shorma Family Gym in recognition of the donation.
Shorma is a 1978 NDSCS graduate who studied Accounting. He felt it was fitting for the Shorma family to give back to NDSCS where he and most of his siblings began their higher education. Tom played football and spent many hours in the weight room while he was a student, and later was an assistant football coach for then head coach John Richman. Ed and Pat Shorma, Tom’s parents, have a deep-rooted history in Richland County and have owned several companies, including WCCO, which is owned and managed today by the second-generation of the family. Ed Shorma is also a NDSCS Honorary Associates Degree recipient.
The Shorma Family Gym houses a weight room that is used by many NDSCS athletes, students, faculty and staff, as well as the general public through Clair T. Blikre Activities Center Facility Memberships. WCCO Belting offers facility memberships to all its full-time employees as part of the company’s Wellness program. Many of its team members enjoy working out and playing basketball at the facility.
